Carl’s story is a journey that spans six decades of American and golf history. He is the last man standing from a long last era. When he is gone, there goes a part of history and a unique story that can never be told again.
The experiences he had throughout his life- what he saw, the times he lived through, what he did, most of which took place within the confines of one of, if not, thee most revered athletic institutions in America- Augusta National/The Masters.
He does not want to tell his story through the prism of blame, anger, accusation, or to incite controversy. Quite the opposite. He is adamant that the story of his life reflect the goodness and miracle of it all. To honor and recognize the people who helped him Rise Above. To talk about how the opportunities that were afforded to him in life because of the game of golf, not in spite of it, led him out of a path that was surely pre-ordained before he was born. He wants to tell the story of his life, a journey interwoven through decades of civil, social, and political unrest and tension. His personal victories and defeats have and will inspire others.
